A peak audience of more than 2 million people tuned in to the Channel 4 Conservative leadership debate, the first televised debate in the contest to be Britain’s next Prime Minister.

This The Andrew Neil Show special will broadcast live this Friday evening, 29 July, after Channel 4 News.

Ian Rumsey, Managing Director of ITN Productions, said: “The contest to become Britain’s next Prime Minister affects us all. With Tory members about to be sent their ballot papers, it’s only right the candidates are subjected to the most rigorous scrutiny - and there is no more forensic interviewer than Andrew Neil.”

Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport said: “After the success of our first audience debate, we’re delighted that Rishi Sunak has confirmed he will be interviewed by Andrew Neil on Channel 4. We hope that Liz Truss also now agrees - and allows the British public to better understand what she stands for.”

Joanna Potts, Commissioning Editor, News & Current Affairs added: “This is a pivotal moment in British politics.  It is fantastic news that Rishi Sunak has confirmed, and we hope that our viewers do get the chance to hear from both candidates about their visions for the country should they become Prime Minister in September.”
