    Whilst life in the UK returns to some form of normality following the Covid lockdown, we are seeing a continuation of the TV viewing growth experienced since the start of the pandemic – with Channel 4 performing above the rest of market average for all audiences.

    This week, the nation marked 100 days since the start of the UK COVID lockdown – the moment when many aspects of normal life were significantly changed for us all. Since the start of that lockdown, TV viewing has seen increases in viewing – with Channel 4 seeing a greater increase than the rest of the commercial marketplace – rising 18% for all individuals versus the market rise of 10%.

    The Coronavirus lockdown saw huge changes in media consumption habits, particularly for young audiences. Channel 4 has experienced a 26% uplift in 1634 viewing since the start of lockdown, versus a rest-of-commercial-market seeing a small decline in viewing.

    The strength of Channel 4’s viewing performance amongst young people during lockdown is stark, with 1634 audiences up 29% versus a rest-of-market average which has now seen zero growth across lockdown, compared to the same period in 2019.
